Dowager’s Hump: Symptoms, Cure, and Prevention

What is Dowager’s Hump?

A Dowager’s Hump is a bending of the upper back of the spine. This condition can develop in both men and women, but it gets its name from the slightly rounded hunch that you see at the base of some elderly woman’s neck. Correct Your Walking Posture

To prevent Dowager’s Hump, you need to correct your walking posture. Stretching

Stretching can help you in reducing the hunch in your back. We will describe some of the stretchings here.

  • Pectoral Stretch: This type of stretch focuses more on your chest, all you need is a door jamb, place your arms on either of the jambs and farm an angle of 90 degrees with both of your arms, and lean in further as you feel your muscles relax.
  • Upper back Stretching: for this stretch, you’ll need to hold something, so its best to find a wall and face the wall while placing your hand straight on it while keeping your neck neutral and don’t let your head drop as you are doing this stretch, and remember to keep your ears align with your shoulders.

By Doing simple Exercise

He Suggests doing 10 reps of each of the following exercises.

  • Start by doing chin tucks, where you move your chin forwards and backwards. This exercise is very good for the discs in the neck.
  • Perform shoulder squeeze, where you squeeze your shoulder blades together, to improve the upper back muscles.
  • He also suggests doing pushups into a corner of a room or through a room door.
